Rochon was born in her home in the Los Angeles suburb of Torrance, the daughter of Zelma who is a nurse practitioner, and Samuel Staples, a business director and graphic designer. Cerritos was her high school. She graduated in 1982. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in arts degree in broadcast journalism 1986 at California State University Dominguez (CSUDH). Ullerup appeared as Julia Brynn for the first appearance in Battlestar Galactica: The Remake, 2006 Sci Fi Channel. She portrayed Ashley Magnus on the Sanctuary TV series during its initial and second seasons, until it was canceled. Her departure caused heated debate among the fans. A lot of people wanted the character back for a future episodes. However, the show was cancelled in 2012. Ullerup appeared in Chesapeake Shores as Bree O'Brien. Ullerup played Maggie Thomas as the estranged ex-wife of Michael Thomas in Asteroid: Final Impact. Since 2016 Ullerup has had a recurring role in the role of Dale Travers in Hallmark's Signed, Sealed, Delivered movies series.

After studying improv at Chicago's Second City and Improv Olympic in the early 1990s, Poehler co-founded the improvisational-comedy troupe Upright Citizens Brigade.
